The Lyrics

The Plot - by Sir Terry Wogan
The
multi-media Columbo & Coffee project was born when Douglas
Anderson, T in the Park presenter and star of the Kung-Fu classics Fist
of Fernandez 1&2, discovered his old college acquaintance Milo
McLaughlin holed up in Fountainbridge, a slum area of Edinburgh.
Destitute and without hope, McLaughlin clearly hadn't washed for
several weeks, and in fact it was his unique personal body odour which
led to Anderson recognising him from his college days.
Taking pity on the tramp-like figure, Douglas took him to a local drinking establishment for a coffee. During their conversation, the two discovered a mutual love of the classic '70s TV detective series Columbo. Experiencing the first moment of happiness he had known for several years, McLaughlin spontaneously scribbled something on the coffee-stained serviette on their table. When Anderson looked at what was written, although it was difficult to understand as much was in a language of McLaughlin's own making, he glimpsed something profound amidst the insanity. Thus, along with Anderson's musical cohorts Andy Marshall and John Reynolds, the classic side Columbo & Coffee was born, as perfect as any piece of art I have ever come across. We can only be grateful that events conspired in such an unforeseen way to bring us this hidden gem.
